Just back from an awesome time at True/False in the belly button of the U.S.A, Columbia, Missouri. Saw so many excellent films, including Nuria Ibanez’s The Tightrope, Lixin Fan’s Last Train Home, Mikel Cee Karlson’s Greetings from the Woods and Robert Greene’s Kati with an I. So great to be at a doc fest that celebrates filmmaking and craft! Alot of late night conversations, jams in the hotel lobby, and new friends.

When We Were Boys was sold out for all three screenings, and was very enthusiastically received.

The fests founders David Wilson and Paul Sturtz treated us all insanely well. Now life must go on, and it’s sad.

Hi there…just coming up for air after Hot Docs. The festival was a fun ride; got to know a lot of great people…the most memorable films I saw were Alan Zweig’s A Hard Name and this crazy and beautiful Danish film called Wild Hearts.

I’ve posted below the Q and A from our first screening….Colin and Noah and myself got the questions, though actually the whole crew was there too. Click on the links below.

My favorite comments about the film so far is hearing that Peter WIntonick branded it ‘Pop Verite’. And also overhearing Colin telling a friend-when he thought I wasn’t listening- “the film is sick.”

Hubert’s film Invisible City focuses on boys from Regent Park. We talk about the contrast of the very different worlds of  When We Were Boys and Invisible City as well as the commonalities that the boys share. It was terrific to meet Hubert and I’m looking forward to seeing his film.

Also, tickets for the May 1 screening of When We Were Boys are now sold out but there are plenty of seats available for the May 10 4pm screening at the Bloor.
